ABSTRACT
The Elder Mediation Project was founded in 1991 by Yvonne Craig after attending a conference and undertaking a fact-finding tour in the USA. Yvonne Craig had been a founder member of MEDIATION UK and had trained as a mediator with one of the London community mediation services. The need for EMP had been demonstrated by the rising numbers of old people living longer and becoming involved in increasing conflicts, in families, in institutions and in communities. There has been a firm focus on gathering a multicultural group of older volunteers to steer the project.61
