ABSTRACT

The process outlined is a seven-stage one, in which the stages will normally run chronologically, although there may be overlap between stages, and within a face-to-face meeting there can be movement between the stages in both directions. Any particular case may terminate at any point along the way, either because of a decision by one of the parties not to proceed or because an agreement has been reached or is likely to be reached by other means, for example, by the parties meeting privately without the mediators.
