ABSTRACT

The need for quality and competence in mediation has been well-recognised, but the issue of ‘qualifications’, ‘professionalisation’, or, as Albie Davis called it, ‘credentialing’, has fuelled a debate about the danger of creating an expert elite and shutting the door to the ‘home-grown’ community mediator. These concerns are illustrated by the following list of questions gathered from various meetings, workshops and letters in the UK over recent years.
