ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Julian Potter, Secretary General of the ISC for three years from April 1991, discusses the role of the ISC and looks at its papers in relation to the Cadbury Report.

In January 1993, institutional shareholders held over 60 per cent of all UK equities. This contrasts with the situation only 30 years ago, when they held just under 30 per cent. The proportion held by private investors has over the same period slipped from 54 per cent to 21 per cent.
