ABSTRACT

In municipal law, legal rights and duties may be created by a wide variety of legal mechanisms. Legislation may create rights and legally enforceable agreements may have the same effect; in certain circumstances rights may arise by operation of judicial precedent. The wide category of rights in an advanced economy are reflected in the volume of of legislation on the statute book. In the area of contract there may be a general law of contract, but there will also be particular provisions regulating commercial contracts, consumer contracts, employment contracts and property agreements. So detailed is the picture that question is raised as to whether there remains any general law of contract.
