ABSTRACT

Regulations have been made, which must be complied with, in relation to many kinds of goods ranging from perambulators and pushchairs to aerosol dispensers. They have been made under the Consumer Protection Acts 1961 and 1971 and the Consumer Safety Act 1978 (both of which have been repealed and replaced by the 1987 Act) and, in respect of EEC requirements, by Orders made under the European Communities Act 1972. Thus, if a producer must manufacture goods to a particular specification in order to comply with any of these Regulations, he has a defence providing the defect was attributable to compliance with the Regulation.
