ABSTRACT
It is a formal demand for payment of a debt, as the first stage of bankruptcy proceedings. A statutory demand must be made on the official form, and personal service on the debtor is obligatory.
Personal service does not mean serving the document yourself. You can arrange this with a process server (look in the Yellow Pages under ‘Detective Agencies’). The court is not involved at this stage.
