ABSTRACT
This is, of course, the root contract from which all others stem. The contract will prescribe the type of documentary credit that is to be opened by the buyer and whether the seller has any right to request the opening of a documentary credit. Where a documentary credit is opened the seller cannot demand payment directly from the buyer or take any action against the buyer under the credit but can seek remedies where there is a breach of the contract of sale itself.
