THEFT Introduction

Introduction The offence of theft is governed by ss 1-6 of the Theft Act 1968. Other offences within this Act will be covered in Chapter 7. The Theft Act 1968 codified the old common law offence of larceny, but used more modern terms to express the precise requirements for the offence. Nevertheless, the extensive case law set out below illustrates how these provisions have needed further clarification and development.
