ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we examine how a defendant is brought before the criminal courts; we consider what happens when a suspect is taken to a police station for questioning; we see how the decision to prosecute a suspect is taken; and we look at the structure and personnel of the criminal courts, and at the advocates who appear before them.
