ABSTRACT

Understanding these basic problem issues is assisted by a consideration of practical examples, and readers may note that competition related issues are reported daily in the press, particularly in the Financial Times. Readers should be aware that competition law has directly affected the pricing and availability of goods and services, such as petrol, milk, electrical and electronic goods, ice cream, bananas, beer, contraceptive sheaths, breakfast cereals, perfume, tampons, estate agents, air travel, travel agents, banking services, Coca-Cola, whisky, cars, CDs and DVDs, TV rights for football, replica football strips, children’s board games, video games and vitamins. Competition law and policy, therefore, have a direct impact upon all our daily lives.
