ABSTRACT

As we saw earlier, a mediator tries to change a competitive negotiation into an interest-based or principled one. How can a mediator do that? How can he or she uncover the underlying interests? Perhaps most importantly, how can the mediator make sure that the disputants have heard and understood each other?
