ABSTRACT

The history of the dispute outlined in the preceding section highlighted the main developments that took place in the period of 1974 to 1980. The information provided in this context shed light on the main elements of the conflicting positions maintained by the Parties to the dispute in this period. However, the progressive codification of international law of the sea as well as the jurisprudence consisting of the decisions of international tribunals which emerged subsequently, have drastically changed the rubrics for the delimitation of the continental shelf. The specific issue of the Aegean delimitation should therefore be considered in the light of the new legal matrix.
