ABSTRACT

Greece observed the demilitarized status of the islands until early 1960’s. In this respect, Greece had continued to maintain the Eastern Aegean Islands in a state of demilitarization for nearly 45 years following the 1923 Lausanne Treaty. The Dodacanese islands, on the other hand, had remained demilitarized for 17 years after the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947. The situation has gradually changed in 1960’s.
