In the previous chapter, we explored the various forms of life sentence which may be imposed on an offender. However, once they are in prison custody, ‘lifers’ will find that the Prison Service makes little distinction between the different categories, except when it comes to questions of release and the preparation of cases for the consideration of the Parole Board.
