ABSTRACT

Having examined the nature of youthful exclusion, and the existing research evidence on mentoring, we begin, in this chapter, to focus specifically on Mentoring Plus. While serving as an introduction to Mentoring Plus, this chapter also raises a number of substantive issues which help to illuminate the mentoring process. Consideration is given to the structure and content of the programme, the social and demographic backgrounds of the mentors and the mentees, patterns of recruitment on to the programme and participants’ reasons for becoming involved.
