ABSTRACT

Mental health services, forensic as well as other specialities, are provided by professionals from a range of disciplines. Among these are psychiatry, nursing, clinical psychology, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy (art, music and drama) and pharmacy. All of these professionals work for the benefit of the patient, each contributing differently to the patient's care. The work of the team is coordinated through the Care Programme Approach (see Chapter 8) and multidisciplinary team meetings. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the training required by each profession and to describe the typical input each professional makes to the patient's care and treatment.
