ABSTRACT

Although appliances are not, strictly speaking, part of a residential building, they are features that are often chosen by the developer or builder. If one anticipates meeting part of the residential electricity load with building-integrated photovoltaic panels, then the efficiency of any electricity using equipment in the residence is important. Office equipment will be chosen by the occupant of the office, but must be anticipated and taken into account when designing the cooling and heating systems, since office equipment can be a modest source of internal heat gain (Figure 6.4).
