ABSTRACT

During the dinner break in the public workshop, I was discussing the design of a proposed artificial wetland with Maisie, who lived in a house overlooking the park. The wetland had been designed to deal with severe ecological problems caused by the rubbish buried in the park near Maisie’s house. We were standing by the table with the cardboard model of the proposed constructed wetland. She appeared agitated and not satisfied with my reassurances that the proposed wetland was only four metres deep. Proud of the cardboard model prepared for exactly this situation, I lifted out the wetland piece and held it up to demonstrate the great distance between the top of the wetland and the entrance to her house.
