ABSTRACT

This chapter provides comparative performance data for a selection of roof cooling techniques discussed in this handbook. The performance data give a measure of cooling energy demand and possible energy savings on air-conditioning for mechanically cooled buildings, and likely improvements in indoor thermal conditions for non-air-conditioned buildings. These were obtained from simulations performed on different building specifications with and without the roof cooling applications. The simulations were performed with the RSPT software, which is on the CD included with this publication. The data in this chapter give a first indication of applicability and comparative performance of roof cooling techniques in different climatic conditions. With these as a starting point readers can then run the RSPT software on building configurations and roof cooling specifications of their own for locations of their choice. Use of the software is described in Appendix B.
