ABSTRACT

Grain production in dryland areas must be improved to help meet the requirements of a growing world population, urbanisation and the transition to meat-rich diets. A major contribution to this improvement will be the capture and use of a greater portion of the limited and highly variable precipitation in dryland areas. Several approaches and practices of water and soil conservation and management can increase water-use efficiency, thus increasing yields and reducing the likelihood of crop failure. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781849773744/65c2c63a-5adc-4ca3-89cb-094580b38b8d/content/figu_3_C.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
