ABSTRACT

The second volume of the Global Survey is entirely based on information collected by, and for, the Global IDP Database. It therefore reflects the current availability of information on internal displacement the world over. The first version of the Global Survey included information about internal displacement related to a wider set of causes. Resource constraints and information gaps have led us to the decision that coverage of displacement related to other causes than armed conflict and generalized violence should begin only when we have fulfilled our ambition with regard to global coverage of conflict-induced displacement. The task of collecting and analyzing data on IDPs for the Global IDP Database is undertaken by a team of six information officers. As continually noted by the information officers who are working on the database, reporting on internal displacement is fragmented, with major geographical and thematic information gaps.
