ABSTRACT
Before starting to develop my own theory of intergenerational justice, I want to find out whether any theory of intergenerational justice is possible at all. In this context, the ‘non-identity paradox’ will be discussed, as it is considered by some authors to be the most important argument against us having obligations to posterity. Strong objections against this line of reasoning will be brought forward. Afterwards, the claim that future generations cannot have rights will be dealt with. Special attention is devoted to the nature of rights in general and the relationship between rights and obligations.
