ABSTRACT
This chapter provides information about rechargeable batteries that are used for storing solar charge in solar systems. The principles and operation of lead-acid batteries are outlined and types of commercially available batteries are described. The problems caused by the deep discharge and overcharging of batteries are discussed in detail. The practice of battery management and maintenance is also discussed and the tools needed to maintain batteries are detailed.
