ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses ‘charge controllers' which are devices used to manage the energy flow in solar electric systems. The work of charge controllers and associated components is described, including overcharge protection, deep discharge protection, system power management and user alerts. The choice of charge controllers is briefly described. Management of small systems without charge controllers is also considered. This chapter also contains a short section on inverters for off-grid PV systems.
