ABSTRACT

Many organizations start making changes by seeking out and implementing ‘quick wins’ internally. These measures are the archetypal incremental improvements in environmental performance, i.e. those that don’t require any major changes to the way the business operates. In this chapter we look at:

Compliance and risk management;

Resource management (materials, energy and water);

Green travel planning;

Capital investments to add greener technologies;

Biodiversity projects.

Staff buy-in for these actions is essential as many of them are dependent on behavioural change. Conversely, such initiatives also provide opportunities for gaining staff buy-in for more fundamental changes. We examine this in more detail in Chapter 17.
