ABSTRACT

Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman work laid the foundations for the field of behavioral economics and was influential in both cognitive and social psychology— he study of the human mind with regard to thought and social behavior respectively. Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman’s 1974 paper “Judgment under Uncertainty: Heuristics and Biases” is essential reading for anyone interested in decision-making. It made a significant contribution to psychology, economics, and the other social sciences. Daniel Kahneman’s parents were Jewish. Originally from Lithuania, they moved to France, but Kahneman himself was born on a family visit to Tel Aviv in 1934. After World War II, the family left France for good, moving to Israel. Kahneman attributes his interest in psychology to growing up in a Jewish community composed of fascinating, complex people. When he went to a career guidance session, psychology emerged at the top of the list of recommendations, with economics not far behind.
