      ABSTRACT

The ideas Griselda Pollock proposed in Vision and Difference help form a central part of her work, and the book can be seen as the foundation stone for much of her later writing. In particular, Vision and Difference stands witness to its author's belief in the importance of feminist art history to the women's movement, and demonstrates at length the methods of analysis that have become so much a part of her work. Current proponents of the kinds of analysis carried out in Vision and Difference believe in the book's assertion that political and cultural factors are innately connected, and that all processes and methods of critical and artistic production need to be questioned rather than blindly accepted. Researchers working on periods and cultures outside modern America and Europe have also been able to use Vision and Difference in their work.
