ABSTRACT

Chris Argyris postulated that management must provide opportunities for the employee's development in order to make the individual an integral part of the work process and engage them in the organization's objectives. Argyris's immaturity/maturity theory has gained wide acceptance among academic theorists. In the business world, managers have also started to take his advice into consideration. "The Individual and Organization: Some Problems of Mutual Adjustment" was published at a time when humanistic principles in management science were not the standard. He employed insights from his predecessors and contemporaries to establish a new wave of behavioral management. The ideas in "The Individual and Organization" are not part of current intellectual debates with opposing schools of thought. The concept of learning organizations has remained popular due to the desire of organizations to be more agile and adaptable to change. The learning of individuals and organizations can facilitate the growth of the company and its ability to adapt over time.
