ABSTRACT

As explained in the previous chapters, the EIO-LCA model traces the various economic transactions, resource requirements, and environmental emissions required to provide a particular product or service. The model captures all the various manufacturing, transportation, mining, and related requirements to produce it. For example, it is possible to trace out the implications of purchasing $46,000 of reinforcing steel and $104,000 of concrete for a kilometer of roadway pavement. Environmental implications of these purchases can be estimated using EIO-LCA. The model itself is available on the Web at https://www.eiolca.net" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">www.eiolca.net, including a variety of input–output tables in addition to the 1997 U.S. benchmark table used extensively in this book.
