ABSTRACT

Ahuge amount of business waste is generated in the United States. We canonly guess at exactly how much, because much of it is either ignored, as withmining and agricultural wastes, or taken care of by the business that generated it, without fanfare or statistics. Official guesses say that industrial waste (not counting mining and agricultural waste) runs to 250 million tons a year, somewhat more than municipal solid waste (Kesler 1994).
