ABSTRACT
IN 1998, THE ADAPTIVE COLLABORATIVE management (ACM) team selected seven dimensions on which to focus in the cross-site analyses: devolution, forest type, population pressure, management goals, human diversity, level of conflict, and social capital. In this chapter, I discuss the issues that led us to these choices and introduce the ways in which we use them.
