ABSTRACT
P overty plagues a substantial portion of humankind. Over a billion people are going hungry today, and half the population in the Global South is undernourished. Nearly 3 billion people struggle to survive on less than $2 a day, not to mention the nearly 1 billion who have less than $1.25. Dire as these statistics are, the situation is improving. In its quest to mitigate the human condition, the UN has made poverty eradication one of its highest priorities.
