ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 tells the unfolding story of the earliest Korean Protestant Church. It emphasizes that the Korean converts, especially colporteurs, were the true builders of the Protestant Church in Korea. The cultural activities of the first Korean church included the publication of Korean Bibles, hymnals, and Christian literature. The chapter also deals with the construction of early church buildings and the development of Protestant architecture. Then it ends with the theological and political conflicts among the Protestant missions and between Protestants and Catholics, and the endeavors to solve those difficulties and ensuing issues.
