ABSTRACT

Well-being is critical for individuals and organizations to function optimally. Work and organizational psychologists should use science to improve the well-being of employees. Therefore, they need to inform people what they should do to live the best lives possible and apply reason and sympathy to enhance human flourishing. Employee well-being is negatively affected by poor management, unfair practices, job intensification, changes in employment contracts, insecurity, and perceptions of loss of autonomy. Various conceptualizations of well-being from the positive psychology model, namely Psychological Capita, the Mental Health Continuum, the PERMA model, Flourishing at work, the Gallup model of net thriving at work, and the Secure Flourishing model have been developed. Sustainable employability means that workers can achieve tangible opportunities in the form of a set of capabilities. Also, they enjoy the necessary conditions which enable them to make a valuable contribution through their work now and in the future, whilst safeguarding their health and well-being. Therefore, they need a work environment that facilitates this and the attitude and motivation to take advantage of these opportunities. In addition, work and organizational psychologists should manage dysfunctional behaviour, including absenteeism, presenteeism, theft, sexual harassment, bullying, and alcohol and drug misuse in organizations.
