ABSTRACT

Designing the family burden coefficients based on family size is to divide a family into working-age and non-working age members – with the latter being regarded as the standard measurement unit of the family burden, and all the family members considered the bearers of the family burden – and calculate different types of family burden coefficients, which are then weighted to show the overall family burden in a region. The family burden is a relatively general concept. Different classification standards can be created from varied perspectives on the types of family burden. The objective indicator of the family burden, or household expenditure, is somewhat similar to the subjective family burden. The design of the family burden coefficients based on burden type also needs to factor in that mutual assistance and mutual benefit between family members are commonplace when the family have shared problems or pressures.
