ABSTRACT

Here, Dr Daniel Siegel’s globally recognized concept of the hand model of the brain is explained in detail, along with implications for primary caregivers and practitioners in their day-to-day interactions and relationships with children. Its in-the-moment applications are provided in order to equip adults to better understand what is happening to a child neurobiologically when they are triggered (and consequently “flip their lid”) and how to support them – as opposed to reprimanding them for how they feel and behave during moments of overwhelming emotions.
