ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will argue that leadership is always political. In our opinion, leaders should develop competencies and mindsets to use their leeway to the fullest and exert influence in the corporate domain and the political one. We analyze individual as well as circumstantial evidence why leadership is political (either directly or indirectly). At the very heart of this chapter, we look at a selection of Jungian archetypes to discuss personal maturity as a key determinant in the above context. Toward the end of the chapter, we provide an integrated model to develop political, and consequently, ethical leadership.
