ABSTRACT

The diversity of NGO strategies for changing mothers’ behavior and knowledge in this SCION is carefully detailed. In a data analysis of eight primary strategies and four combinations for which there were enough cases, the single most powerful strategy for changing women’s behavior was the combination of physical capital (casas bases) with human capital (household visits per capita) while the best strategy for increasing knowledge was human capital (household visits) with social capital (mothers clubs) for knowledge and social support. However, a single primary strategy, forming health committees where health councils do not exist, a social capital strategy, is also quite effective.
