ABSTRACT

Shifting from the organizational level to the network level, two important measures of the effectiveness of a SCION are how much improvement in health behavior and knowledge took place and how much organizational change occurred, particularly radical organizational adaptiveness. Using 10% improvement as a marker, SCION NicaSalud improved women’s health behavior and knowledge for safe motherhood on eight out of 11 indicators and for child survival on all nine indicators. Relative to radical organizational adaptiveness, 70% of the 14 organizations at the end of the project reported changing at least one strategy and on average 3.6 tactical changes. Detailed examples of radical learning and organizational adaptiveness are detailed. In most cases, the NCO is the source.
