ABSTRACT
The attributes and culture of embedded city making and the effect of time on the predictability of making outcomes are explored. The significance for these outcomes of the location of making and the size, precision and power of the technology employed are discussed. How to capture, frame and harness precedent and tune intentions to the setting at an appropriate tolerance are then reviewed referring to examples of small making experiments. The chapter concludes with guidance on the recognition and celebration of a products fit to its setting, at any one point in time. Having established a fragment’s viability, issues of up-scaling and city-assembly are introduced.
