ABSTRACT

In order to harness a loose fit approach to enhancing our capabilities and freedoms within the dynamic city we need to come to terms with the unpredictability of time, find places and moments for collaboration and sharing, and learn to mesh fabric change with institutional change. These issues, all discussed earlier in the book, are summarised in this chapter, followed by five precepts for action within urban complexity, a review of the architects’ potential role, and an exploration of the limitations and opportunities offered by the loose fit approach to making within the diverse range of social and economic city topography to be encountered around the world.
