ABSTRACT

One primary task of this book is to explore how we align concepts that shape spatial justice and place with the environmental humanities. In doing so, this chapter builds upon the previous chapter in Part I by critically overviewing two essential concepts that foreground the following two parts of the book. This chapter explains the links between place justice and solastalgia as part of the environmental humanities. It explores how socially produced ideas about space and environments in literary and visual texts affect the way we perceive and react to our environments. Establishing and defining a connection to place (locally, regionally, and globally) is what ultimately promotes change through spatial awareness.
