ABSTRACT

This book is a provocation. It is designed to encourage deep reconsideration of the international development of “corporate governance”. This started so well 25 years ago with the publication of the seminal Cadbury Report on the Financial Aspects of Corporate Governance. 1 It is now in a torpor, directionless, and needs reframing following the implosion of trust between the governed and the governors across the world. We need to rethink its meaning at national and international levels and then develop the competences needed to deliver it. These competences need developing not only in directors and politicians but also in owners and regulators.
