ABSTRACT

Like their legacy economy predecessors, manufacturers and retailers, the product stewards of the economy-in-Planet are in the business of product creation and sales. However, product stewardship aims specifically at working with rather than against product longevity. Product stewardship activities therefore include not only production and sales, but also product maintenance, retrieval, remanufacture and redistribution. Aiming to reduce resource use through product lifetime extension, product stewardship responds to the resource reduction imperative, and pioneering companies are often engaged in stewardship activities.
