ABSTRACT

You will have noticed that the list of diffi culties in Chapter 2 is subdivided into three groupings with ‘perception’, ‘planning/organising’ and ‘executing or doing’ as titles heading each part. This is because moving well, i.e. effi ciently and appropriately in different environments, depends on all three:

• Perception/sensory integration the ability to recognise, interpret and process sensory stimuli from the environment;

• planning the ability to build a mental model, i.e. to know what to do; organising the ability to memorise patterns of sequential movements; and

• executing the ability to carry out the movements themselves.
