ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the book by reinforcing teaching as a complex and sophisticated business. Teachers are constantly making decisions and judgements which inform the development of their professional knowledge of practice. As this type of knowledge is intuitively constructed, it can be difficult to articulate and share. As a result, teaching often appears easier than it really is and the complex professional knowledge teachers create is often undervalued. This chapter concludes by considering how I have used the lens of pedagogical equilibrium to capture, examine and share the development of my own professional knowledge. Used in this way, challenges to equilibrium can be embraced as opportunities for learning which are appropriate for teachers’ individual learning needs.
