160Since so many of the interviews in this book concern Mr. Henry McClellan, the circuit clerk during the 1960s, Kenneth Sallis sent him a letter explaining that we have interviewed many civil rights activists. The letter stated, "Many of them described how you harassed them when they tried to register to vote and you were the circuit clerk. We would like to interview you to get your side of the story."
