ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Data Set B of the 1991 Santa Fe Time Series Prediction and Analysis Competition is a multivariable physiological time series, consisting of 4 hours and 43 minutes of simultaneous heart rate, respiration, blood oxygen saturation, and sleep stage data. By way of general introduction to the data, we first address the reader who is not a physiologist, but who is looking for a case study with which to develop a particular forecasting method or who may wish to promote a larger agenda (Waldrop, 1992)

in which physiological systems are governed by principles that might apply equally well to other types of series in the Competition.
