ABSTRACT

Multimodal therapy represents a broad-spectrum and integrative approach that rests on the assumption that psychological problems are multilayered and multifaceted, and should be addressed in all their complexity through detailed assessment and comprehensive treatment. The theoretical framework of multimodal therapy postulates that people exist and interact across all seven modalities, therefore most psychological problems appear as a result of synergistic and reciprocal interactions among interpersonal, social, emotional, biological, and other factors. The authors offer a multimodal counseling group approach aimed at reducing parental stress and improving the psychosocial well-being of new parents. Considering the multidimensional and complex nature of parental stress, the framework of multimodal group therapy represents an ideal approach to address the complex psychological issues of transitioning to parenthood, as well as provide social support and an opportunity for validating feelings, sharing experiences, and learning new strategies in the safety of a parental group environment.
